The Achaean League emerged in 272 BC. It was a confederation of Greek city-states on the northern and central Peloponnese.
The Achaean League was formed in 272 BC by the cities of Achaea, Elis, and Pharae. Its main purpose was to provide a unified defense against the Aetolian League, which had been formed in 280 BC. Initially, the Achaean League was led by a council of ten members, but this was later increased to 20. The Achaean League was eventually dissolved in 146 BC, when it was conquered by the Roman Republic.
