The Day of the Dead, also known as Día de los Muertos, is primarily celebrated in Mexico. It is a vibrant and significant cultural holiday that takes place on November 1st and 2nd each year. While the holiday has roots in indigenous Aztec traditions, it has also been influenced by Catholicism and is now recognized and celebrated throughout Mexico. During the Day of the Dead, families and communities gather to honor and remember their deceased loved ones. They create elaborate altars called ofrendas, decorate gravesites, visit cemeteries, and engage in various rituals and festivities to commemorate and pay tribute to the departed.
