The desert that covers most of Northern Africa is the Sahara Desert. It is the largest desert in the world, covering an area of 9,400,000 km2 (3,600,000 mi2). The Sahara Desert stretches across the countries of Algeria, Chad, Egypt, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Sudan, and Tunisia.
