A player has two attempts to make a successful serve in tennis. If the first serve is a fault, they get a second serve. If the second serve is also a fault, a double fault is called, and the opponent gains a point.

In volleyball, a player has only one attempt to complete a successful serve. If the serve goes out of bounds or hits the net, it is considered a fault and the other team earns a point.
