In a standard tennis match, a player must win three sets to claim victory. However, in some tournaments, the number of sets required may vary. Each set is won by the player who first wins six games and is ahead by at least two games.

In a standard tennis match, a player must win the majority of sets to claim victory. Most professional matches are played as a best-of-three sets format, meaning the player who wins two out of three sets wins the match. Grand Slam tournaments for men are played as best-of-five sets, meaning the player who wins three out of five sets wins the match. Women's Grand Slam matches are still best-of-three sets.
