Do binturongs live alone or in groups?

Binturongs are solitary animals and prefer to live alone in the wild. They are mostly active during the night and rest in tree dens during the day. They mark their territory with a pungent odor or musk gland secretions to keep away predators and communicate with other binturongs.

Binturongs are generally solitary animals, but they may live in small family groups consisting of a male, female, and their offspring. Juvenile binturongs may stay with their mother for up to two years before becoming independent. Adult binturongs mark their territory with scent and vocalizations and may have overlapping home ranges with other individuals.
