There are two living species of coelacanth: the West Indian Ocean coelacanth (Latimeria chalumnae) and the Indonesian coelacanth (Latimeria menadoensis). Both species are very similar in appearance and biology. In addition to the living species, there are several extinct species of coelacanth known from the fossil record.

There are only two species of Coelacanths left that are considered to be endangered. The two species are found in different geographical habitats. One is the West Indian coelecanth while the other is the Indonesian coelacanth.

As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, there were two recognized living species of coelacanths:

1. West Indian Ocean coelacanth (Latimeria chalumnae): This species is primarily found off the coast of South Africa and the Comoros Islands.

2. Indonesian coelacanth (Latimeria menadoensis): This species is found off the coast of Sulawesi, Indonesia.

These two species are the only known living representatives of coelacanths. Please note that there may not have been any new discoveries or taxonomic changes regarding coelacanth species since my last update, so it's a good idea to consult more recent sources for the latest information.
