During the Duvalier tradition in Haiti, the President was François "Father Doc" Duvalier. He accepted the administration in 1957 and managed with a tyrant grasp until his demise in 1971. Duvalier laid out a fierce fascism, using state-supported brutality, restriction, and an inescapable mystery police force known as the Tonton Macoutes to smother contradiction and keep up with control. After Daddy Doc's demise, his child, Jean-Claude "Child Doc" Duvalier, succeeded him as President at 19 years old. Child Doc proceeded with his dad's severe system until he was ousted by a well-known uprising in 1986. The Duvalier tradition addressed a time of debasement, denials of basic freedoms, and monetary decrease in Haiti.
