DURING THE ARAB SPRING WHICH BEGAN IN LATE 2010 AND CONTINUED INTO 2011, EGYPT WAS UNDER THE RULE OF PRESIDENT HOSNI MUBARAK. MUBARAK HAD BEEN IN POWER SINCE 1981 AND HIS REGIME FACED SIGNIFICANT PROTESTS DEMONSTRATIONS DURING THE ARAB SPRING.
