Zine El Abidine Ben Ali was the President of Tunisia during the Arab Spring, which began in 2010. He had been in power since 1987, but was forced to flee the country in January 2011 following widespread protests and civil unrest. He was succeeded by interim President Fouad Mebazaa and then by Moncef Marzouki, who served as President from 2011 to 2014.

It included a series of street demonstrations which took place in Tunisia, and led to the ousting of longtime president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in January 2011.
