DURING THE ETHIOPIAN CIVIL WAR WHICH LASTED FROM 1974 TO 1991 THERE WERE DIFFERENT PRESIDENTS WHO HELD POWER AT VARIOUS STAGES. IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT DURING THE ETHIOPIAN CIVIL WAR THERE WERE MULTIPLE FACTIONS INVOLVED INCLUDING THE GOVERNMENT FORCES LED BY MENGISTU AS WELL AS VARIOUS REBEL GROUPS REPRESENTING DIFFERENT REGIONS AND IDEOLOGIES.

Mengistu Haile Mariam was the President of Ethiopia during the Ethiopian Civil War, which began in 1974 and lasted until 1991. Mengistu had been in power since 1977, after leading a coup against the previous government. The civil war was fought between the government forces led by Mengistu and various rebel groups.
