One should avoid those landlords not complied with housing codes. All rental units in Jersey City must be registered by the owner/landlord. You can check for rental registration and any building violations at the Housing Preservation Department. Jersey City also implemented a rent control regulation to protect tenants from unexpected increase in rent.
