Toothpaste is a gel or paste used in conjunction with a toothbrush to clean and maintain the health of teeth. It often contains ingredients such as abrasives, detergents, humectants, foaming agents, flavorings, and sometimes a sweetener, to aid in spreading the paste, enhancing its flavor, and attracting people to brush their teeth.

Colgate is a filipino joke when they are asking for the tagalog word for toothpaste, when in fact Colgate is a brand of a toothpaste. In old filipino translation that would be "Pasta sa ngipin".

I do not think there is a tagalog translation for that. Filipino people uses english words and many doesn't even know the translation for some because it is already part of their language. If you conduct a survery to 1st 100 Filipino you'll encounter, I bet they will also fail to provide you the translation for that but, I'm pretty much sure that they can describe the use of it in tagalog instead of translating it.

The Tagalog translation of toothpaste is "pabango ng ngipin". This phrase literally translates to " perfume of the teeth". Toothpaste is used to clean and protect the teeth, and it is important to use toothpaste that contains fluoride to help prevent cavities. It is also important to brush your teeth twice a day and floss regularly to maintain good oral hygiene.

To keep teeth clean and healthy, people use toothpaste, which may be a gel or a paste, in combination with a toothbrush. To make the paste easier to spread, more palatable, and more enticing to use, manufacturers may occasionally add things like abrasives, humectants, detergents,  foaming agents, flavourings, and even sugar.
