Mercury is the planet closest to the sun. It is the smallest planet in the Solar System and has a highly eccentric orbit that brings it as close as 46 million kilometers from the sun and as far as 70 million kilometers away. Mercury has no moons and a very thin atmosphere composed mostly of oxygen.

The planet closest to the sun is Mercury. It is the smallest planet in our solar system and completes one orbit around the sun every 88 Earth days. Due to its proximity to the sun, Mercury has a high temperature range from 800 degrees Fahrenheit during the day to -290 degrees Fahrenheit at night. It has a cratered surface with long, steep cliffs known as scarps. Despite being closest to the sun, Mercury is not the hottest planet in our solar system; that title belongs to Venus because of its thick atmosphere that traps heat.

As we know there are 7 planets in the solar system and earth is the 4th planet from the sun so the most closest planet to the sun is mercury and the most hottest is Venus due to the presence of an atmosphere.
