Marsupials, a group of mammals, are known for carrying their young in a pouch. The most famous example of a marsupial with a pouch is the kangaroo, but other well-known examples include wallabies, koalas, and opossums. In marsupials, the female typically gives birth to relatively undeveloped live offspring, which then continue to develop and nurse within the protective pouch until they are more mature and able to survive outside. The pouch provides a safe and nurturing environment for the developing young marsupials.
