Bonfire Night, also known as Guy Fawkes Night, is celebrated on the 5th of November every year in the United Kingdom and some other countries. It marks the anniversary of the failed attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London in 1605, known as the Gunpowder Plot. The plot was led by a group of Catholic conspirators, including Guy Fawkes, who intended to assassinate King James I and restore a Catholic monarch to the throne. The plot was uncovered and the conspirators were executed. Bonfires and fireworks are traditionally lit to celebrate the foiling of the plot and the safety of King James I.
