The American Civil War was fought from 1861 to 1865 between the northern states (Union) and the southern states (Confederacy). The key issues that led to the war included states' rights, slavery, and economic and political differences between the North and South. The Union's victory in the war led to the preservation of the United States as a nation and the eventual abolition of slavery.

Well Civil War was actually fought over the moral issues of slavery. The central point of the conflict was the economics of slavery and the political control of that system. Prior to the war, The North and South America had been divided for decades over the issue of slavery. The Southern economy was based largely on plantation agriculture, and African American slaves did most of the work on the plantations.

The American Civil War was a four-year war (1861-1865) between the US and the 11 Southern States. It was the culmination of the struggle between the advocates and opponents of slavery that dated from the founding of the US. Later, the election of Lincoln, as the president, precipitated secession of those 11 states, leading to a civil war.
