Ornamental crops are plants that are grown and used primarily for aesthetic purposes, rather than for practical or utilitarian purposes.

These plants are typically grown for their beauty, decorative value, or visual appeal, and may include flowers, shrubs, trees, and foliage plants.

Ornamental crops are often used in landscaping, indoor and outdoor decoration, and in floral arrangements.

Some common examples include roses, daisies, tulips, sunflowers, petunias, marigolds, and poinsettias.

Ornamental crops, also known as Garden Plants, are produced with the purpose of beautifying, decorating, or enhancing the environment. They are generally small plants with beautiful colors and smell and since most of them do not give food; they are excluded for commercial food production, such as vegetables and fruits.

The cultivation of ornamental plants is called floriculture and hence form a major branch of horticulture. They are very important as they help to conserve energy and the quality of air, water and soil like other plants and trees. Rose, ferns, phlox daffodils, lavender are the few examples of these plants.

They are generally divided into two categories-

Herbaceous- those that bloom annually and then become dormant.

Woody- that are trees, shrubs and vines.
