Chlorophyll is a green pigment found in plants, algae, and some bacteria that is essential for photosynthesis, the process by which plants convert light energy into chemical energy. It absorbs light in the red and blue-violet parts of the electromagnetic spectrum and reflects green light, giving plants their characteristic green color. Chlorophyll is also responsible for the oxygen production during photosynthesis.
