The size of a quokka's litter is usually one joey at a time. They breed throughout the year, with mating most common in summer. After a gestation period of just over a month, the joey is born.

Quokkas have a short gestation period of around one month, and typically give birth to a single joey per litter. The joey stays in the mother's pouch for around 6 months before emerging and becoming independent after about 8-9 months. Quokkas can breed throughout the year, but most births occur in late summer to early autumn.
