Kiwis do not have a gestation period, as they are birds and lay eggs instead of giving birth to live young. After mating, the female kiwi will lay a single large egg, which both parents take turns incubating until it hatches, which can take up to 80 days depending on the species. Once the chick hatches, both parents continue to care for it until it is old enough to fend for itself.
