The nervous system consists of a network of specialized cells called neurons that transmit signals between different parts of the body. When a neuron is stimulated, it generates an electrical impulse that travels along its length. These impulses are then transmitted across synapses, or small gaps between neurons, where they trigger the release of chemicals called neurotransmitters that activate other neurons or muscle cells.

The nervous system is responsible for sending and receiving signals throughout the body. It consists of two main parts: the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS). The CNS includes the brain and spinal cord, while the PNS includes all the nerves that connect the CNS to the rest of the body. Neurons are the basic unit of the nervous system and transmit signals via electrical and chemical impulses. Sensory neurons transmit signals from sensory receptors to the CNS, while motor neurons transmit signals from the CNS to muscles or glands.
