Tarsiers are capable of making vertical jumps that can reach up to 10 feet (3 meters) in a single leap. Their hind limbs are highly specialized for jumping, with elongated ankle bones that act like springs, propelling them into the air with great force. They also possess long fingers and toes, allowing them to grasp onto tree branches and propel themselves further.
These remarkable jumping abilities are crucial for tarsiers' survival in their natural habitat. Since they are arboreal creatures, living primarily in trees, their ability to jump allows them to move swiftly and efficiently between branches, escape predators, and catch their prey, which mainly consists of insects and small vertebrates.
In addition to their jumping abilities, tarsiers also have excellent night vision and the ability to rotate their heads almost 180 degrees, which further contributes to their success as nocturnal hunters.
