Your laptop may ask for a PIN instead of a password because you have enabled the Windows Hello PIN option in your sign-in settings. A PIN is a personal identification number that you can use to sign in to your device instead of a password. A PIN is more secure than a password because it is tied to your device and not stored online. A PIN is also easier to enter than a password, especially on touch-screen devices.

If you want to use a password instead of a PIN on your laptop, you can follow these steps:

  • Go to Settings - Accounts - Sign-in options.
  • Under PIN (Windows Hello), click on Remove.
  • Enter your current PIN to confirm and click on Remove again.
  • Under Password, click on Add or Change (if you already have a password).
  • Enter and confirm your new password and click on Next.
  • Click on Finish.

Now you can use your password to sign in to your laptop instead of a PIN.

The principal reason behind why your Windows 10 is requesting the PIN rather than a password is that you have set up a PIN during the Windows Hi menu.

If you updated your Lenovo laptop and are unable to log in because you don't remember the PIN, you have a few options to regain access:

1. **Use Your Microsoft Account Password**: If your Lenovo laptop is linked to a Microsoft account, you can try using your Microsoft account password as the PIN. In some cases, the PIN might be the same as your account password.

2. **Try Previous PINs or Passwords**: If you have used similar PINs or passwords in the past, try them as they might be the one you set up for your laptop.

3. **Use an Alternate Sign-In Option**: If you have set up other sign-in options like a fingerprint or facial recognition, try using those to log in instead of the PIN.

4. **Reset Your PIN**: If the above options don't work, you can reset your PIN by following these steps:

   - On the login screen, click on "I forgot my PIN" or "Reset PIN."

   - You will be asked to verify your identity through your Microsoft account password or another authentication method if available.

   - Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your PIN.

5. **Recovery Options**: If you are unable to reset your PIN, you might need to use recovery options to gain access to your laptop. This could involve using a recovery USB drive or accessing advanced recovery options during boot-up.

The exact steps and options might vary depending on your laptop model and the version of Windows you are using. If you are still unable to log in or reset your PIN, it's recommended to reach out to Lenovo support or Microsoft support for further assistance. They can provide specific guidance based on your laptop model and operating system version.

The option to “Sign in with Password instead” may not be there. It’s gone. The only option is you use you PIN. If you have forgotten your PIN, here is a method of regaining access to your laptop or PC.

You may have entered a PIN some time ago and forgotten what you have used. You may not remember even entering a PIN.

There is initially an option that says “I forgot my PIN”. This will take you through the procedure of regaining access by using your mobile phone or email on another device to receive an unlock code.

our laptop might have switched to using a PIN for login after an update for added security. To retrieve or reset your PIN:

  1. On the PIN entry screen, click "I forgot my PIN" or a similar option.
  2. You might need to enter your Microsoft account password to verify your identity.
  3. Follow the prompts to reset or create a new PIN.

If you're still having trouble, consider reaching out to Lenovo support or a technical expert for assistance.

The problem with the password service is that you have more, but you can also be in trouble. The best thing to do is trying to keep a password with letter and number of size of 8. There is also google password, but google is our main web site (I mean super man app). With some research on google, you can possibly find the way to get back and remove the pin.

PIN is a set of numbers or combination of alphabet and numbers, that you choose yourself. Using a PIN is a quick and secure way to sign into Windows. Your PIN is securely stored in the device. If you are not able to sign into your device, you must try :

1. If you see "I forgot my PIN", select it and follow the instructions to Reset the PIN.

2. If you don't see "I forgot my PIN", select Sign-In Options and then select Enter Your Password.

After you are signed in, select Start - Settings - Accounts - Sign in Options - PIN (Windows Hello) - I forgot my PIN and then follow the instructions.

Your laptop asks for a pin instead of a password because it provides an added security layer and is typically faster to enter than a complex password. This helps to safeguard your device and personal information more effectively.

Your laptop might be using a PIN for faster access and increased security. PINs are typically  shorter and easier to enter while still provide  a level  of protection  against unauthorized  access.
