The sun bear (Helarctos malayanus) is the smallest species of bear. It can be found in Southeast Asia's tropical rainforests, which include those in Bangladesh, India, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

Sun bears typically weigh 60-150 pounds (27-68 kilograms) and measure about 4-5 feet (1.2-1.5 meters) in length. Their chest patch is either orange or cream in color, and their fur is short and black. Because they can climb very well, sun bears spend a lot of time in trees.

As omnivores, sun bears consume small animals, fruits, insects, and honey. They have also been known to steal honey and larvae from beehives.

The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species has sun bears classified as Vulnerable. Hunting, the illegal pet trade, and habitat loss are their threats. image

Sun bears are known as smallest bear in the world. They have tiny ears and rounder heads. Their hair is slick and short and they’re little weighing between 75 and 80 pounds. A big male Borneo sun bear might be 100 pounds. A male grizzly bear, on the other hand, can easily weigh up to 600 pounds (and those that feed on salmon in Alaska can weigh considerably more). Only some people know about them they are tend to be really active and they also mimic each other.
