The index finger, or forefinger, is generally considered to be the largest finger on the hand. The index finger is the second digit on the hand, and it is typically longer and thicker than the other fingers. In fact, the index finger is often considered to be about 1/3 larger than the middle, ring, and pinky fingers. While there is some variation from person to person, most people's index fingers are the largest on their hands. Interestingly, the index finger is also often considered to be the most dominant finger, and it is the first to develop fine motor skills.
