It ultimately depends on individual values and beliefs about governance. Some people may believe that a military government is necessary for stability and security, while others may prioritize democratic principles such as representation, human rights, and rule of law. It is important to carefully consider the implications and consequences of different forms of government and the values they embody.

The effectiveness or "best" form of government depends on various factors, including the context, values, and goals of a society. Democratic governments prioritize representation, individual rights, and participation of the people in decision-making processes. They aim for accountability through free and fair elections, fostering stability and providing a platform for diverse voices.

Military governments, on the other hand, are characterized by rule by the armed forces. They might prioritize stability, order, and security but often limit civil liberties and suppress political opposition.

Generally, democratic governments are favored for their emphasis on freedom, accountability, and inclusivity. However, each type has its strengths and weaknesses, and what's considered "best" can vary based on the needs and circumstances of a nation.

SINGAPORE - Singapore has come out tops in a ranking that tracks the effectiveness of governments around the world, edging out Finland, which has topped the index since it was first published in 2021.

Between democratic and military governance, which one is most preferred by the governed, and why? As a person living in a country governed by the military (Myanmar) and has lived through partial-democratic rule for only a quarter of my life, and has never experienced full democracy, I would prefer democratic rule.

Stratocracy, a government traditionally or constitutionally run by a military. Military democracy, a war based society that practices democracy. With an elected and removable general as supreme chief, a council of elders and a popular assembly.

The question of which government type is "best" is subjective and depends on individual perspectives. However, democratic governments, with their emphasis on citizen participation, protection of rights, and accountability, are generally considered more inclusive and representative of the people's will.
