Surprisingly, science has found that fish are capable of recognizing their owner's face, even if the owner is standing by the tank with other people. Fish can develop an association between something they like, being fed, with the person who feeds them. So, finally fish can recognise its owner.

I also thought so because not every fish is that smart and may easily have a very low level of understanding.

The fun fact is that they do recognize the owners in real life. They can acknowledge the face, stature, etc. of the owners, especially standing at the tanks.

Yes, according to the researchers fish can recognize their owner's faces even in the middle of dozen other people. They can easily differentiate their owner from the other standing by the tank.

Collective studies indicate that being as smart as a fish is a pretty nice compliment. What’s interesting is that while we normally give credit to mammals for their ability to recognize their owners, land animals have the added benefit of detecting scent and hearing vocal sounds, factors that do not play a part in these studies.

Studies have shown that some fish can recognize their owners. Fish such as goldfish, betta fish, and cichlids have been observed responding to their owners, such as swimming to the front of the tank when the owner approaches. Additionally, some fish can even learn to recognize their owner's voice and respond to commands.
