Emperor Nero (37-68 AD) is often considered one of the most infamous and murderous emperors in Roman history. He is known for his cruelty, tyranny and debauchery. He is said to have ordered the murder of his own mother, Agrippina, and is believed to have been responsible for the deaths of many other members of the Roman elite, including his own brother and several potential rivals for the throne. He is also said to have been responsible for the persecution and execution of early Christians, many of whom were martyred during his reign. His rule was marked by political instability and he was eventually deposed and exiled in 68 AD, and later committed suicide.
