You may have heard the term rough sawn timber before. Basically, this means that this type of timber is untreated and cut into boards. its is generally stronger than other types of timber, but also carries extra moisture because it has not been kiln dried. Planks are also thicker than surface wood, giving you some versatility for your project.

Unlike hand hewn wood, rough sawn lumber is lumber that has been cut from the log using a bandsaw without being planed smooth. The blade of the bandsaw leaves saw marks on the lumber, which can give the wood an interesting texture.
