Alexander Graham Bell, a Scottish-born American scientist and inventor, is best known for inventing the telephone. In 1876, Bell patented his invention of a "talking telegraph," which he called the telephone. The telephone revolutionized communication and allowed people to communicate with each other over long distances easily. Bell went on to invent other technology such as the photophone, which transmitted sound on a beam of light.
