Alexander the Great conquered Egypt in 332 BCE without any significant resistance. In fact, he was welcomed as a liberator by the Egyptians who disliked the Persians who had ruled over them for 200 years. It is said that during his visit to the Oracle of Amun at the Siwa Oasis in the Western Desert of Egypt, he was declared the son of the god Amun and thereafter, was seen as a god-king by the Egyptians.
