The original Spider-Man comics were written by writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko. Spider-Man made his first appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15, a comic book published by Marvel Comics (then known as Atlas Comics) in August 1962. Lee and Ditko created the character as a teenage superhero with unique powers and relatable problems, such as balancing his dual identities as Peter Parker and Spider-Man, dealing with his Aunt May and his friend Harry Osborn, and fighting against a variety of villains like Dr. Octopus, the Green Goblin, and the Vulture. Spider-Man quickly became one of Marvel's most popular and enduring characters, and has since been adapted into numerous films, TV shows, and other media.
