In which country did the Caesar salad originate?
The Caesar salad is believed to have originated in Tijuana, Mexico, in the early 1920s. It was invented by Caesar Cardini, an Italian-born restaurateur who owned a restaurant in Tijuana called Caesar's.
According to Cardini's daughter, Rose, the salad was invented on a busy Fourth of July weekend in 1924. The restaurant was overrun with American customers, and Cardini was running low on ingredients. He improvised by using what he had on hand: romaine lettuce, olive oil, lemon juice, Parmesan cheese, croutons, and a raw egg. He then tossed the ingredients together in a bowl and added some seasonings. The salad was a hit with the customers, and it soon became a popular dish at Caesar's restaurant.
