The Caesar salad was named after its creator, Caesar Cardini, an Italian restaurateur who first made the dish in 1924. Cardini was living in Tijuana, Mexico, at the time and is credited with inventing the iconic salad. The original version of the salad was made with romaine lettuce, croutons, Parmesan cheese, and a simple dressing of olive oil, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and raw egg.
