The only British Prime Minister to have been assassinated is Spencer Perceval. He served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1809 until his assassination in 1812. On May 11, 1812, Perceval was shot and killed by John Bellingham while entering the House of Commons in London. Bellingham, who had personal grievances and perceived grievances against the government, targeted Perceval specifically. This tragic event made Perceval the only British Prime Minister to be assassinated in office.
