According to Greek myth, the labyrinth built by Daedalus housed the Minotaur, a creature with the head of a bull and the body of a man. The Minotaur was said to have been the offspring of Pasiphae, the wife of King Minos, and a bull sent by the god Poseidon as punishment for the king's disobedience. The Minotaur was eventually slain by the Athenian hero Theseus, who was guided through the labyrinth by Ariadne, the daughter of King Minos.
