La Befana is a legendary old woman in Italy who delivers Christmas presents to well-behaved children on the night of January 5th. The tale goes, the three wise men, aka the Magi, asked La Befana to join them on their journey to find the Baby Jesus; however, she declined because she was too busy cleaning. After they left, La Befana changed her mind and went after them, bringing along gifts for the child. She never caught the Magi; however, she continued to search for the baby on her own but was unsuccessful. To this day, she delivers gifts to children annually in hopes that the Baby Jesus will be among them.
