Marine mammals have a multitude of adaptations that allow them to survive in colder waters. Blubber is one such adaptation, serving as a thermal insulator to maintain body heat. Additionally, many marine mammals have a fur coating that provides an extra layer of insulation, as well as thick layers of skin to protect against the harsh elements.
