The largest species of snake is the green anaconda (Eunectes murinus), which is known for its impressive size and girth. It is native to the swamps and rivers of South America, particularly in the Amazon rainforest. Adult green anacondas can reach lengths of up to 30 feet (9 meters) and can weigh over 500 pounds (227 kilograms). These snakes are constrictors, using their muscular bodies to wrap around their prey and suffocate them before swallowing them whole. While the green anaconda holds the record for being the heaviest snake, the reticulated python (Python reticulatus) is considered the longest snake, with some individuals reaching lengths of over 30 feet as well.
