The Aztecs were conquered by Spain.

The conquest of the Aztec Empire by Spain began in 1519 with the arrival of the Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés and his army. The Aztecs, led by their emperor Moctezuma II, initially welcomed the Spanish as they believed they were gods. However, the Spanish quickly turned on the Aztecs and began a brutal campaign of conquest that ultimately led to the downfall of the Aztec Empire in 1521. The Spanish had superior military technology and were able to exploit the internal divisions within the Aztec Empire to their advantage. The conquest of the Aztecs was a significant event in the history of the Americas, as it marked the beginning of European colonization and the destruction of many indigenous cultures.

Spain is the short answer, but it isn't entirely correct.

Cortes took off on his own, seeking to conquer the Aztecs without orders to do so. Perhaps the fact that he was facing some troubles and possible arrest motivated him to do so.

Had things not worked out, Hernan would have entered the history books in a very different manner, as it were however, he became a hero to the Spanish.

I doubt the Aztecs viewed him as kindly.

Soon after the Spanish colonization of Cuba in 1519, a small army led by Hernán Cortés (1485-1547) conquered Mexico from the Aztecs.

The Aztecs were conquered by Spain, a European country. Led by Hernán Cortés, the Spanish conquistadors invaded the Aztec Empire in the early 16th century. Through a combination of military tactics, alliances with rival indigenous groups, and the introduction of European diseases, the Spanish ultimately defeated the Aztecs and claimed their territory as part of the Spanish Empire.
