François II was the king of France.
François II was the son of King Henry II and Catherine de' Medici. He became king of France at the age of 15 in 1559, but his reign was short-lived, lasting only one year. He married Mary, Queen of Scots, but died without an heir, leading to the accession of his younger brother, Charles IX. The reign of François II was marked by religious conflict between Catholics and Protestants, which would eventually erupt into the French Wars of Religion.
