The definition of humor is different depending on the person in which is involved with said humor. What is funny to one person is not necessarily funny to another person. That being said humor is all about the way a person perseves the information or joke that is being told to them. 

If you told an eight year old a "knock, knock" joke this said eight year old might laugh for a good minute or so because to them the joke was humorous.

However, if you told this same "knock, knock" joke to a fourty year old, you might not get the same affect. The fourty year old might think the joke is stupid or over told because he has heard it several times before this.

The presence of humor also has to do with the context in which the joke or humorous statement is being applied. If you told a "Your mama" joke to someone's who mother had just died you would not necessarily get a humorous response from them but rather one of sadness or maybe even anger.

However, you could tell this same "Your mama" joke to a coworker who doesn't necessarily get along with her mom and this said coworker could be rolling on the floor laughing because of how funny she thought it to be. 

This being said I believe that the definition of humor should be: Taking a situation or scenario, by light heartened and genuine interest, and deeming it to be funny and/or humorous in nature causing a good laugh because of the way the information was perseved.
