Thomas Edison is usually credited as the man who invented the lightbulb patented the first commercially successful bulb in 1879.January 1879, at his laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey, Edison had built his first high resistance, incandescent electric light. It worked by passing electricity through a thin platinum filament in the glass vacuum bulb, which delayed the filament from melting.

It is widely known that Thomas Edison made the first light bulb 1879. However, he couldn't have done it without the contributions of Alexandro Volta, Humphrey Davy and Joseph Swan. Alessandro Volta was the one who developed a way of feasible way of generating electricity in 1800. Humphrey Davy built his electric arc lamp in 1802 which was deemed impractical because of being too bright for domestic or official use. Joseph Swan made a light bulb in 1860 but it also had some shortcomings.
