The okapi is a forest-dwelling mammal native to the Democratic Republic of Congo in central Africa. It is related to the giraffe and has a similar body shape, with a long neck and legs. However, it is much smaller than a giraffe, standing at around 5-6 feet tall at the shoulder. It has a reddish-brown coat with white stripes on its back and legs, and a long, prehensile tongue for grasping leaves and other vegetation. The okapi is a shy and elusive animal, and was only discovered by western science in the early 20th century.
