The most unexpected act of kindness I've experienced or witnessed occurred during a major natural disaster that happened during the hurricane Kartrina of 2005, a devastating hurricane that struck New Orleans.
During this period, a family found themselves stranded on their rooftop, surrounded by rising floodwaters. They had lost their home and possessions and they have been without food and clean water for many days.
As they anxiously awaited rescue, a group of strangers in a small boat approached. Instead of just rendering help, they gave them a box of fresh, homemade sandwiches and a jug of clean drinking water. The family was dazed and stunned by this act of unexpected kindness.
Despite the strangers also being affected by the hurricane, they have taken time to prepare food and give to those who are in need.
