People can actually do important things now but they just procrastinate it and end up not doing it at all.

People are usually lazy

They dont do things until they are kinda forced to do.

Its kind of a psychology that. "why do it now, it too difficult might try it out later" 

And eventually they completely forget about it

Mostly laziness is the main reason for procastination,and when it is not controlled can turn in to form a habit and when this happens you just have the feeling to procastinate even when you can do it at the present moment.

Simple answer will be people are getting lazy day by day with the technology coming and in general it is basically due to various reason such as fear of failure lag of motivation distractions feeling and a desire for a immediate pleasure it's a common human behaviour but can have negative consequences.
