Some plant-based sources, such as flaxseed, chia seeds, and walnuts, have high levels of ALA omega-3 fatty acids, but they are not as effective at increasing DHA and EPA levels as fish.

Fish is one of the best dietary sources of omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential fats that have numerous health benefits. However, there are some plant-based foods that contain higher levels of omega-3s than fish. Here are some examples:

Flaxseeds: Flaxseeds are a rich source of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which is an essential omega-3 fatty acid. In fact, flaxseeds contain more omega-3s than any other plant food. However, it's important to note that ALA is not as easily converted to the active forms of omega-3s (EPA and DHA) as the omega-3s found in fish.

Chia seeds: Chia seeds are another plant-based source of omega-3 fatty acids. They are high in ALA, as well as fiber, protein, and various other nutrients.

Walnuts: Walnuts are a good source of ALA and also contain other nutrients like vitamin E, magnesium, and fiber.

While these plant-based sources of omega-3s are beneficial, it's important to note that they do not provide the same levels of EPA and DHA found in fish. Therefore, for optimal health benefits, it's recommended to consume a variety of foods that are high in omega-3 fatty acids, including both fish and plant-based sources.

It's difficult to say which food is definitively "better" than fish as it depends on various factors such as personal taste preferences, dietary requirements, and cultural influences.

However, there are several foods that are considered healthy and nutritious, just like fish. For example, foods such as lean meats like chicken and turkey, tofu, legumes such as lentils and beans, nuts and seeds, and certain vegetables like leafy greens, broccoli, and sweet potatoes can provide a good source of protein, healthy fats, and vitamins and minerals.

It's important to note that incorporating a variety of foods into your diet is key to achieving a balanced and healthy diet. Consult with a registered dietitian or healthcare provider for personalized nutrition recommendations.

Tofu, banana blossom, and jackfruit are popular substitutes for fish due to their texture. In addition, seaweed, soy sauce, and mushrooms can help to give an authentic taste. Plant-based fish alternatives can provide essential nutrients such as protein and minerals to someone eating a vegan or plant-based diet.
